Blue Mountain Reservation boasts 1,538-acres of interconnected loops with single-track, more challenging trails or crushed gravel paths popular with hikers, runners, and especially mountain bikers. There are several ponds and streams, hardwood trees, notable rock formations, and the Hudson River visible from various highpoints from the two park peaks of Mt. Spitzenberg and Blue Mountain.

The popular Summit Loop is a 3.3 mile trail, considered moderately challenging, and averaging about an hour and half to complete.

The land was purchased from the Native Americans in 1677 to become part of Van Cortlandt Manor. Later the Loundsbury family operated a sand, gravel, cement and brick business here. The ponds were constructed for making ice, which was cut and stored to sell in the summer. Westchester County acquired the land in 1926 to preserve this diverse natural resource for public use.

Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. The park also features a Sportsman Center with archery and shooting ranges, huge playground, and picnicking on the bucolic rolling grounds.
