\nJoin award-winning artist, naturalist, and writer James Prosek at the exhibition, \u201cEdward Hopper\u2019s Hudson River Boyhood and Emerging Artistic Vision\u201d (on view until March 26th). The renowned Connecticut based artist explores parallels with Edward Hopper\u2019s childhood experiences, specifically how objects and scenes he was drawn to capture in his sketchbooks\u2013as he wandered, and trespassed, on private lands of his rural hometown\u2013would help shape his mature artistic identity. As with Hopper, art was a natural outlet for him and as a youth he developed his artistic gift and love of nature.
\nDescribed early in his career as a modern-day Audubon, Prosek made his authorial debut at nineteen years of age with\u00a0Trout: an Illustrated History\u00a0(1996). Today, the Yale graduate and Connecticut resident continues to bring the natural world into people\u2019s lives through his\u00a0large-scale silhouette murals and paintings, watercolors, and trompe l\u2019oeil clay and bronze sculptures.\u00a0Prosek\u2019s work has been featured in major museums and exhibitions, including \u201cFragile Earth:\u00a0The Naturalist Impulse in Contemporary Art\u201d organized by the Florence Griswold Museum and now on view Brandywine Museum of Art. Recently, Yale University Art Gallery published \u201cArt, Artifact, Artifice,\u201d a catalog of his 2020\/21 exhibition, and this fall, the Amon Carter Museum will present\u00a0Trespassers: James Prosek and the Texas Prairie\u00a0this fall.
