Some of our biggest and most scenic parks on or near the river that are open to the public include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/parks.ny.gov\/parks\/bearmountain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bear Mountain State Park<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aqueduct.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Old Croton Trailway State Historic Park<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/parks.ny.gov\/parks\/rockefeller\/details.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rockefeller State Park Preserve<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/parks.westchestergov.com\/croton-point-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Croton Point Park<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/parks.westchestergov.com\/georges-island-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">George&#8217;s Island<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/parks.ny.gov\/parks\/rocklandlake\/maps.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rockland Lake State Park<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.walkway.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Walkway Over the Hudson<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>\n\t\tCycling around the Historic Hudson River Towns\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>The Hudson Valley is full of great bike trails and most of them are covered in the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ptny.org\/guidebook\/hudsonguide.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new cycling guidebook<\/a><\/strong>, published by Parks and Trails New York, in partnership with the Hudson River Valley Greenway and Hudson River Valley National Heritage area.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.walkway.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Walkway over the Hudson<\/a><\/strong>, connecting the city of Poughkeepsie on the east bank, to the Town of Highland on the west, is a great span with spectacular views and rail trails on either end.\u00a0 If you haven&#8217;t ridden it yet, you&#8217;ll find yourself wondering &#8220;what took me so long?&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\tHiking around the Historic Hudson River Towns\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>Walking and hiking in our great out-of-doors is one of the most pleasurable things to do in the Historic Hudson River Towns and throughout the scenic Hudson Valley. To find trails that suit your interests and level of stamina, use the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ptny.org\/Trailfinder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Parks and Trails Trailfinder<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A terrific (and fairly flat) walking trail is the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aqueduct.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Old Croton Aqueduct Trailway State Historic Park<\/a><\/strong> that parallels the river, linking most of the Historic Hudson River Towns. You&#8217;re actuallly walking on the top of the Old Croton Aqueduct that was built in the 1840&#8217;s to bring fresh water to New York City.<\/p>\n<p>More background on the Aqueduct Trailway is available on the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/parks.ny.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation website<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\tPaddling in the Historic Hudson River Towns\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>Paddling, whether by canoe or kayak, is an adventuresome way to enjoy the Hudson. Nothing beats being out on the river without the noise or smell of an engine. It&#8217;s peaceful, its relaxing and its scenic beyond belief! Here are some sites that can serve as resources for experienced paddlers or those that are just starting out.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kayakhudson.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hudson River Recreation<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hrwa.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hudson River Watertrail Association<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>\n\t\tSailing on the Hudson River\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>What a joy it is to get out on the Hudson with the wind at your back!
