PLUS Pinkster Jubilee 2026 coincides with Yonkers Arts Weekend! \nPinkster is the Dutch name for Pentecost\, a religious holiday and celebration of spring where people took time to travel and visit family. In the New Netherland Colony\, Pinkster was transformed into a unique Afro-Dutch celebration – a week of temporary freedom for enslaved people. Able to travel\, earn money\, and gather in groups\, Pinkster allowed enslaved people to take a break from their endless work\, see separated family members\, preserve and pass on culture to the next generation\, and resist enslavement. DESCRIPTION:Whose side are you on? During the American Revolution\, the Philipses were staunch Loyalists. The Hudson Valley was the site of fierce fighting between the Patriots and the British during the Revolutionary War\, and Westchester County in particular was a contested “neutral zone.” How did people decide where their loyalties lay? Join us for a unique “talk show\,” colonial-style. Meet seven historical people\, including Mary Philipse Morris\, an Algonquian British ally\, a Continental army officer\, and an enslaved woman named Liss\, and learn how and why they decided to stay loyal to the British Crown\, or revolt as Patriots. Time for audience Q&A will follow each performance. Performances held in-person at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.
