SUMMARY:ANDREA BARUFFI: PLAYFUL and SUZANNE AUER: COLORSCAPES
DESCRIPTION:Roost Restaurant and Union Arts Center are pleased to present two new\nexhibitions featuring the work of Andrea Baruffi and Suzanne Auer.\nIn Gallery 1\, Andrea Baruffi showcases a collection of prints made from his\noriginal acrylic paintings. Baruffi’s artistic style is characterized by\nwhimsy and humor. Many of the original acrylic paintings\, from which the\n“Playful” series of art prints are made\, range in size from 60″ x 80″ to\n80″ x 80″. They are available for purchase directly from the artist’s\nstudio\, located two hours north of Florence. His work is widely exhibited\nthroughout Italy.\nBaruffi\, a former illustrator and longtime resident of Piermont\, returned\nto Italy after his retirement\, having worked in New York for major\nadvertising agencies and children’s book publishers. He received classical\ntraining in art at the prestigious Liceo Artistico in Bologna and holds a\ndegree in architecture from the University of Florence. He cites Edward\nHopper and Caravaggio among his favorite artists. To learn more about\nBaruffi and his work\, visit Instagram page @andrea_baruffi_paintings.\nhttp://twitter.com/andrea_baruffi_paintings. For inquiries about sales or\nfurther information\, please contact Kathy at (845) 652-0737 (Piermont) or\nkathleenbaruffi@gmail.com mailto:kathleenbaruffi@gmail.com .\nIn Gallery 2\, Suzanne Auer presents a series of paintings that highlight\nher love of color. The paintings evoke a sense of nostalgia and a feeling\nof revisiting favorite places and things. Auer showcases her process of\nplanning a painting around a specific color and creating a visual path\nthrough it.\nAuer received her BFA in Jewelry and Silversmithing from SUNY New Paltz and\nstarted her own business painting children’s clothes and murals. This led\nto creating The Art Studio\, a business teaching drawing and painting to\nchildren and adults for over 20 years in Highland Mills\, NY. She is now\nretired and painting every free moment she gets. SUMMARY:Call for Artists: Open Call "The Memory of Water"
DESCRIPTION:“The Memory of Water”\nExhibition Dates: Oct. 7 – Nov 22\nWhat does ‘Water’ mean to you? As humans who inhabit bodies made up mostly of water\, we need to connect to water. Water is a necessity\, nourishing\, its beauty inspires\, its recreational\, and an elemental force of nature. Water is an essential ingredient of life\, it is vital to our very existence on this planet. Although water covers 70% of the Earth\, only 3% of this is fresh water. It can be hard to imagine there could be a global water crisis. Yet billions of people experience a lack of available clean water.\nThis exhibit invites artists to respond to Water with a consideration through a local lens\, as a starting point for discussions about its importance as a natural resource. Are you an environmentalist who cherishes the beauty of our region? An activist who wants to help minimize the pollution of water? Do you look at the scientific elements of water? Are you concerned about PFAS chemicals? Have you had an experience or connection to water that you have portrayed through art? Is it the color of water that you are transfixed by or the sound of a river or ocean?\nWe are fortunate to live in a watershed area\, near many lakes\, the Hudson River\, and fairly close to the ocean\, it creates our environment and frames our state of mind. “The Highlands which are within an hour’s drive of New York City and the developed communities of northern New Jersey\, New York\, northwestern Connecticut\, and northeastern Pennsylvania\, is an oasis of green dominated by forests and farmlands; rivers\, lakes and streams; hiking and mountain biking trails; and scenic vistas. This place\, known as “The Highlands”\, is a major source of drinking water for millions of residents in the region. The Highlands is also one of the most ecologically diverse parts of the northeast. The health of the Highlands is important to the health and well-being of millions of residents in the NY\, NJ\, CT and PA region\, resulting in an estimated $913 million in avoided healthcare costs. As local lakes\, scenic vistas\, cultural and historic sites\, and opportunities to fish\, boat\, swim\, camp\, rock climb\, mountain bike\, ski\, and simply enjoy nature provide important opportunities for residents to enjoy the outdoors literally in their backyard; as well as the mental and physical health advantages and improved standard of living in the U.S.” Jim Lyons – Hook Magazine\nIn 2002 an updated study found the Highlands area could be threatened by ecological\, social and economic conditions. How can we be better stewards of our local waterways? Rockland Center for the Arts invites artists to submit artwork exploring “The Memory of Water.”\nOpen to all forms of 2D and 3D art for the wall. SUMMARY:Two New Exhibitions: ANDREA BARUFFI: PLAYFUL and SUZANNE AUER: COLORSCAPES
DESCRIPTION:Roost Restaurant and Union Arts Center are pleased to present two new exhibitions featuring the work of Andrea Baruffi and Suzanne Auer. \nIn Gallery 1\, Andrea Baruffi showcases a collection of prints made from his original acrylic paintings. Baruffi’s artistic style is characterized by whimsy and humor. Many of the original acrylic paintings\, from which the “Playful” series of art prints are made\, range in size from 60″ x 80″ to 80″ x 80″. They are available for purchase directly from the artist’s studio\, located two hours north of Florence. His work is widely exhibited throughout Italy. \nBaruffi\, a former illustrator and longtime resident of Piermont\, returned to Italy after his retirement\, having worked in New York for major advertising agencies and children’s book publishers. He received classical training in art at the prestigious Liceo Artistico in Bologna and holds a degree in architecture from the University of Florence. He cites Edward Hopper and Caravaggio among his favorite artists. To learn more about Baruffi and his work\, visit Instagram page @andrea_baruffi_paintings. For inquiries about sales or further information\, please contact Kathy at (845) 652-0737 (Piermont) or kathleenbaruffi@gmail.com. \nIn Gallery 2\, Suzanne Auer presents a series of paintings that highlight her love of color. The paintings evoke a sense of nostalgia and a feeling of revisiting favorite places and things. Auer showcases her process of planning a painting around a specific color and creating a visual path through it. \nAuer received her BFA in Jewelry and Silversmithing from SUNY New Paltz and started her own business painting children’s clothes and murals. This led to creating The Art \nStudio\, a business teaching drawing and painting to children and adults for over 20 years in Highland Mills\, NY. She is now retired and painting every free moment she \ngets. For more information\, visit www.suzanneauerpaintings.com. \nOPENING RECEPTiON FOR SUZANNE AUER: Sunday\, May 21\, 12- 2 PM \nGallery Hours: \n4 PM – 5:30 PM (except Tuesdays) \nOr call 845-359-0258 for an appointment  \nRoost Restaurant and Bar is an American brasserie where co-owner Chef Kevin Reilly serves elevated fare\, utilizing the freshest seasonal ingredients for a variety of exquisite meat\, seafood\, and vegetable dishes. In 2020\, Roost moved around the corner from its initial Sparkill location to its present home inside the iconic Union Arts Center. The century-old firehouse was meticulously renovated in 2010 by Simon Basner and repurposed as a venue for multi- disciplinary artistic expression. When Roost leased and subsequently purchased the building\, co-owner Maria Santini created a space which patrons often describe as having a cool\, unique vibe and much more than just a place to dine – it’s an experience that is not soon forgotten. \nRestaurant Reservations are highly recommended.
