DESCRIPTION:Visit three historic Revolutionary War sites in Westchester\, where French troops camped during the final year of the war.\nListen to the FREE AUDIO TOUR about the crucial French alliance with General George Washington and the Continental Army.\nCome learn about the French role in winning our war for independence\, see their encampment sites\, visit a historic tavern\, meet Generals Rochambeau and Washington\, tour a pop-up museum\, and pet animals from the colonial period.\nThis free family-friendly event will take place Saturday\, May 20\, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\nEach location will have family activities.\n\nFREE AUDIO TOUR!\nDownload the free TravelStorys Follow the French audio tour and learn about the sites as you drive to each location. The audio launches automatically—hands-free—as you approach each site\, without the need for cell service or Wi-Fi. You can also listen to the tour at home. Click here to download it. (The tour will be available long after the event for tourists and history lovers to use.) \nTOUR SITE LOCATIONS\nAudio tour works best in this order. \nSmith’s Tavern Educational Complex\n440 Bedford Road\, Armonk\, NY\nSmith’s volunteers\, in period costume\, will welcome you with lots of fun for the whole family. There will be an optional self-guided tour of four ancient buildings: Historic Smith Tavern (a National Register of Historic Places site)\, a 1798 Quaker Meeting House\, Brundage Blacksmith Shop and East Middle Patent One-Room School. Here you can see the correspondence between Washington\, Rochambeau and Lauzun\, pretend you are a soldier of Lauzun’s Legion or stand with Rochambeau. Learn about the Daughters of the American Revolution and all it does to promote American history. \nOdell House Rochambeau Headquarters\n425 Ridge Road\, Hartsdale\, NY\nSee artifacts from the museum-in-the-making\, meet General Rochambeau and many of the camp followers. Costumed volunteers will offer children’s activities\, a selfie booth and teach you how to make a model of Odell House Rochambeau Headquarters. Learn about the nearby encampment of the French and American armies\, the crucial decision that was made at the house by Washington and Rochambeau and the ongoing restoration of this National Register of Historic Places site. \nRochambeau Park/Yorktown Grange Fair Grounds\n99 Moseman Road\, Yorktown Heights\, NY\nMeet French\, Continental and British forces in uniform performing drills and firing muskets\, participate in an encampment setup (for both adults and kids)\, learn to use a model musket\, greet reenactors in period dress\, and see farm animals from the period. \nTour organized by the Friends of Odell House Rochambeau Headquarters\, in collaboration with the North Castle Historical Society and the Yorktown Heritage Preservation Commission. SUMMARY:Croton Point History Hike
DESCRIPTION:Village of Croton Historian Marc Cheshire will lead a hike on Saturday\, July 29\, at 9 a.m. to explore Croton Point’s rich history\, from Native American occupation to the Underhill vineyards and brickyards to the early days as a Westchester County park. The hike will last roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. This event is free. Meet at the gate to the RV park\, where parking is available. Ages 6 and up; wear sturdy shoes. The same hike will take place (at the same time and meeting location) on August 5.

DESCRIPTION:Historic Hudson River Towns is pleased to partner with Nyack’s Long Path Outfitters to present Discover Nyack State Park Beach Day.  A complimentary guided hike with West Mountain Guide Co. on Saturday\, Sept 30 will introduce visitors to this gem along the Hudson River shoreline in Upper Nyack. Participation is limited and advance registration and waiver is required. Raindate Oct 1. \nVarying in distance\, altitudes and location on the Long Path Trail\, guided expeditions unlock community through the great outdoors while showing off the beauty and greatness of the Hudson Valley. For our day hikes\, we’ll meet at 8:15 am at the trailhead and expect 4-7 miles\, depending on our route.

SUMMARY:Historic Homes of Hudson Highlands Tour
DESCRIPTION:Step inside several historic homes and see and learn about many more as we tour the Hudson Highlands! Found within the riverfront community of Philipstown are numerous historic estates\, farmsteads\, the hamlet of Garrison\, and the well‐preserved historic waterfront of the Village of Cold Spring. Towards the latter part of the nineteenth century artists\, writers and prominent families came to Cold Spring\, and mansions were built along Morris Avenue. The mid-19th century buildings of Garrison’s Landing have been so well preserved that it was used for 1890s scenes in Hello\, Dolly!. Homes from the colonial\, Victorian\, and other eras make this area of the Hudson Highlands an exciting place to explore. This tour will highlight a variety of historic architectural styles and share their stories along the way! \nJoin us for this unique experience to see historic homes\, inside and out\, and immerse yourself in culture and history. Offered one time only! Space is limited. \nThis is a guided tour. Participants will travel the tour itinerary in their own vehicle. Details about the historic buildings at each location will be provided by your guide\, including the historic homes that will be featured as interior tours.
