SUMMARY:NY OPERA CONSERVATORY: FREE July-August 2024 Summer Concert Series – Croton Free Library
DESCRIPTION:The Taconic Opera summer program for emerging opera singers\, New York Opera Conservatory (NYOC)\, offers you an opportunity to hear the upcoming generation of professionally trained singers as they gain valuable experience perfecting their craft in a leading role. Established in 2018\, the NYOC helps to fill an unmet need among trained singers to gain hands-on experience through actual performance. \nEach event in the series listed below – one tragedy and one comedy – will have a different cast\, making every performance completely unique from all the others!  Each performance includes the complete opera and is semi-staged (costumes\, props). \nJuly Opera:  Il Trovatore – Verdi \nVerdi’s turbulent tragedy is a mainstay of the operatic repertory. The score is both dark and energetic\, with infectious tunes that are not easily forgotten. Set in the turbulent Middle Ages\, the story is about a count seeking revenge for the murder of his brother by the gypsy girl Azucena\, who just happens to have raised the Count’s arch-enemy Manrico. This opera features the playful Anvil Chorus and the rousing tenor aria Di quella pira\, a favorite in concert performances by Pavarotti\, Domingo\, et al. Sung in Italian. \nDates:  Wednesday\, July 3\, 7:00 pm \nFriday\, July 5\, 7:00 pm \nSaturday\, July 6\, 7:00 pm \nSunday\, July 7\, 3:00 pm \n  \nAugust Opera: Dona Pasquale – Donizetti \nThe second opera performed as part of the NYOC summer series is Donizetti’s hilarious comedy\, Don Pasquale. A bumbling buffoon is taught a life lesson as he is tricked into a fake marriage with a young woman who turns into a demanding shrew. Taconic Opera’s favorite hilarious mainstage buffo\, Jorge Ocasio\, joins the Conservatory’s young cast to sing the title role. Sung in Italian. \nDates:  Wednesday\, August 7\, 7:00 pm \nFriday\, August 9\, 7:00 pm \nSaturday\, August 10\, 7:00 pm \nSunday\, August 11\, 3:00 pm \nLocation:  Croton Free Library \n171 Cleveland Drive \nCroton-on-Hudson\, NY \n  \nFee:  FREE \nFor information about becoming a student in the NY Opera Conservatory\, visit the Conservatory website: https://www.newyorkoperaconservatory.com/ \nFor general information about Taconic Opera and NY Opera Conservatory events\, visit the website: https://taconicopera.org/ \nSocial Media: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/taconicopera/ \n@TaconicOpera \nhttps://www.instagram.com/taconicopera/ \n  \n

SUMMARY:Hudson Chorale Spring Concert
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a thrilling afternoon as we present three inspiring works conducted by Artistic Director David Baranowski and Assistant Director Wilden Dannenberg. \nEach of the works by the three composers on the program\, Maurice Duruflé\, Randall Thompson\, and Ola Gjeilo\, challenges the listener to face the worst and affirm the best in humanity. \nIn “Dark Night of the Soul\,” composed in 2010\, Gjeilo weaves the human voices of a double chorus into a voiced instrument in urgent conversation with piano and strings. \nThompson’s 1936 work\, “The Peaceable Kingdom” braids the warlike poetry of Isaiah’s Biblical prophecy into a contemporary plea for peace. \nIn Duruflé’s 1948 “Requiem\,” chorus\, chamber orchestra\, mezzo and baritone soloists\, and organ summon traditional plainchant and the ritual of the Requiem Mass to reaffirm\, today\, the persistence of hope. \nThe concerts will be on Saturday\, May 17 and Sunday\, May 18 at 3pm at Irvington Presbyterian Church\, 25 North Broadway\, Irvington\, NY \nTickets can be purchased for $30 each at https://events.humanitix.com/hudson-chorale-spring-concert-2025 \nHalf-price tickets for students will be available at the door. \nFor further information\, please visit www.HudsonChorale.org or email us at hudson.chorale@gmail.com \nHudson Chorale concerts in 2025 are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. \nHudson Chorale is proud to be a grantee of ArtsWestchester with funding made possible by Westchester County government with the support of County Executive Ken Jenkins.

SUMMARY:NY OPERA CONSERVATORY: FREE July-August 2025 Summer Concert Series – Croton Free Library
\n  \nEach event in the series listed below – one tragedy and one comedy – will have a different cast\, making every performance completely unique from all the others!  Each performance includes the complete opera and is semi-staged (costumes\, props). \n  \nJuly Opera:  Un Ballo in Maschera (A Masked Ball) – Verdi \nWhat can happen when a king falls in love with the wife of one of his advisers?  What does he do when a fortune teller reveals that she loves him too?  Based on an actual event in Sweden\, come and watch his unraveling in a dramatic yet gently comedic way.  Since it’s Verdi\, expect some outstanding arias and ensembles. \n  \n  \nDates:  Wednesday\, July 9\, 7:00 pm \nFriday\, July 11\, 7:00 pm \nSunday\, July 13\, 3:00 pm \n  \nAugust Opera: La Cenerentola (Cinderella) – Rossini \nIn this dramatic variation of the fairy tale\, the Wicked Stepmother is replaced by a stepfather\, the Fairy Godmother is replaced by a philosopher and tutor to  Prince Charming\, and Cinderella is identified not by a glass slipper but by a silver ring.  It’s not the Disney story: the supernatural elements that traditionally characterize the Cinderella story were removed from Rossini’s libretto because they couldn’t be staged in his day. However\, Taconic Opera will make it just as entertaining and endearing to watch! \n  \nDates:  Wednesday\, August 13\, 7:00 pm \nFriday\, August 15\, 7:00 pm \nSunday\, August 17\, 3:00 pm \n  \nLocation:  Croton Free Library \n171 Cleveland Drive \nCroton-on-Hudson\, NY \n  \nFee:  FREE \n  \nFor information about becoming a student in the NY Opera Conservatory\, visit the Conservatory website: https://www.newyorkoperaconservatory.com/ \n  \nFor general information about Taconic Opera and NY Opera Conservatory events\, visit the website: https://taconicopera.org/
