SUMMARY:Joan Osborne w/ special guests Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams
DESCRIPTION:Touring in support of her tenth studio album\, the masterful Trouble and Strife\, Joan Osborne has issued a clarion call. With stunning vocals\, a diverse range of sonics\, and incisive lyrics\, this deeply engaging collection of new original songs is her response to “the crazy\, chaotic times we’re living in\,” she says\, and “a recognition of the important role music has to play in this moment. Music has a unique ability to re-energize people and allow us to continue to hang on to that sense of joy of being alive.”\nSince she broke through 25 years ago with the multi-platinum Relish and its touchstone mega-smash “One of Us\,” the seven-time Grammy nominee has never played it safe. Osborne has followed her restless musical heart\, exploring a diverse range of genres: pop rock\, soul\, R&B\, blues\, roots rock\, gospel\, funk\, and country – all of which can be heard on Trouble and Strife\, along with the Western side of C&W and a touch of glam and disco. “For a lot of the record\, we were going for a ‘70s AM radio vibe\,” says Osborne. As for the lyrics\, the songs “are the most political I’ve ever written\,”she conveys of her first album of originals since 2014’s confessional Love and Hate. Osborne also produced Trouble and Strife\, primarily recorded in her basement studio in Brooklyn and released on the label she founded in 1991\, Womanly Hips.\nMulti-instrumentalist\, singer-songwriter Larry Campbell and singer-guitarist Teresa Williams are frequent collaborators with Phil Lesh\, Levon Helm\, Little Feat\, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady\, brought to the stage the crackling creative energy of a decades-long offstage union.

SUMMARY:Tower of Power
DESCRIPTION:For over 50 years\, Tower of Power has delivered the best in funk and soul music.“We were a Soul band called The Motowns.” recalls Emilio Castillo. “Rocco was the bass player\, I was there\, and my brother was the drummer. I met “Doc” Kupka back in 1968\, and gave him an audition. He came in the band\, and we eventually changed our name to the Tower of Power.” The reason for the band name change was that they had a specific goal in mind.\nEast Bay Grease defined their sound and landed them with Warner Brothers. Bump City\, their 1972 debut for the label\, was a hit on both the Billboard 200 and the R&B Albums chart\, and netted them the hits “You’re Still A Young Man” and “Down to The Nightclub.” The 70s were a boom period with radio classics like “So Very Hard to Go” and “What Is Hip?\,” and the band continued to tour and record over the years. Castillo says their love of the stage is the same today as it was back in 1968.\n50 years later\, in 2018\, they returned to Oakland to celebrate their landmark 50th anniversary. Tower’s window-rattling grooves and raucous party spirit has been a balm for the soul throughout their half-century existence\, but the release of 50 Years of Funk & Soul: Live at the Fox Theater couldn’t have arrived at a better time.\nThe band has long since surpassed Castillo’s modest aspirations\, traveling the world\, enjoying hit singles on their own and backing legendary artists including Otis Redding\, Elton John\, Santana\, the Grateful Dead\, John Lee Hooker\, Aerosmith\, Bonnie Raitt\, and countless others. In the process they’ve defined an “Oakland soul” sound as instantly recognizable as those from Castillo’s hometown\, Detroit\, as well as inspirations like Memphis and Philadelphia.\nThe future of Tower of Power is set out to be vigorous and dynamic\, and will prove to be just that for fans around the world starved for the band’s groove just the way Tower of Power likes it!

SUMMARY:David Bromberg Big Band
DESCRIPTION:With his 1971 self-titled Columbia Records release\, multi-instrumentalist\, singer and songwriter David Bromberg emerged as a wunderkind of American roots music. The disc’s blend of traditional and original material\, virtuosic musicianship and iconic cover art trumpeted the arrival of a new artist of audacious vision.\nOver the course of seven more albums for Columbia & Fantasy Records and through associations with Bob Dylan\, Jerry Jeff Walker\, John Hartford\, George Harrison\, the Grateful Dead\, Emmylou Harris and Bonnie Raitt\, Bromberg’s reputation and following grew exponentially. However\, the incessant demands of touring finally brought the recordings and shows to an end in the early 1980s.\nA twenty-two-year drought ended in 2006 with the release of the Grammy-nominated solo effort Try Me One More Time. In 2011 David followed up with Use Me\, a typically unorthodox Bromberg-ian effort\, partnering him with Linda Ronstadt\, Vince Gill\, Los Lobos\, Dr. John\, Keb’ Mo\, John Hiatt\, Levon Helm and others as David asked them to either write or choose songs and then produce him performing them.\nTwo more albums emerged from 2013 to 2017\, Only Slightly Mad and The Blues the Whole Blues and Nothing But the Blues\, both produced by 3 x Grammy winner Larry Campbell. Recorded at Levon Helm’s Barn\, Only Slightly Mad brought the band back to David’s eclectic ‘kitchen sink’ musical philosophy\, while The Whole Blues proved Texas fiddler Johnny Gimbel’s theory that: “There are only two songs—‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ and the blues.” The band skipped the ‘Banner’ and headed straight for the blues\, winning the 2017 Downbeat Critic’s Poll for Best Blues Album.\nWith David’s band settling into its current lineup: Mark Cosgrove (guitar\, mandolin\, vocals)\, Nate Grower (fiddle\, mandolin\, guitar\, vocals)\, Josh Kanusky (drums\, vocals) and newest member\, Suavek Zaniesienko (bass\, vocals)\, they entered the studio in mid-2019 for a different approach to record-making. The resulting album\, Big Road\, gives Bromberg fans the most intimate portrait to date of David and his band\, musically and visually. Featuring twelve new recordings\, five hi-def performance videos and a mini-documentary detailing the album’s creation\, the content rich album was released on Compass/Red House Records as a CD/DVD combo pack and gatefold vinyl album.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Steve Hackett
DESCRIPTION:Steve Hackett is renowned as an immensely talented and innovative rock musician. He was lead guitarist with GENESIS as part of\, that produced acclaimed albums such as SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND (a favorite of John Lennon).\nWith GENESIS\, Steve’s guitar playing produced some of the most memorable moments\, from the sensitivity of his acoustic sound on Horizons and Blood on the Rooftops to the dramatic rock guitar solos of Firth of Fifth and Fountain of Salmacis. As he embarked on his solo career he developed his exceptional range\, pushing musical boundaries into exciting areas\, exploring unchartered depths\, and utilizing sounds and instruments from the four corners of the globe.\nSince 2013 with the reintroduction of his album GENESIS REVISTED\, STEVE HACKETT has re-ignited the passion\, drama and sheer musical mastery with his highly acclaimed tours which span not only the splendid years of Genesis and their classic line up with Gabriel\, Collins\, Banks and Rutherford\, but also a vast repertoire of his highly successful solo career which sprang to life with magical and mysterious debut album SPECTRAL MORNINGS in 1979. 2019 saw the peak of STEVE’s performances with the sell out tour combining the entire albums of SPECTRAL MORNINGS and SELLING ENGLAND BY THE POUND\, together with gems form his other solo works\, most notably from his latest album AT THE EDGE OF LIGHT. Reviews from this tour show STEVE to be arguably at his peak of his career.

SUMMARY:Judy Collins - Holiday & Hits
DESCRIPTION:The Christmas concert series will feature a program of holiday classics\, songs from Judy Collins’s latest album\, Spellbound—her 55th album and her first ever complete album of originals—and beloved songs culled from her six-decade career. Holiday & Hits will be an intimately elegant Christmas experience curated by Judy. Her singular baroque folk sensibility is uniquely suited to entries from the Great Christmas Songbook. Under a Christmas tree of classic songs\, Judy thoughtfully places gifts from her era-defining oeuvre—including evergreens by Joni Mitchell\, Leonard Cohen\, and Judy original favorites—future classics from her latest album\, Spellbound. On Holiday & Hits\, a cultural icon welcomes you to a winter wonderland.\nThe award-winning singer-songwriter is esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards and her own poetically poignant original compositions. Her stunning rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” from her landmark 1967 album\, Wildflowers\, has been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Judy’s dreamy and sweetly intimate version of “Send in the Clowns\,” a ballad written by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway musical A Little Night Music\, won “Song of the Year” at the 1975 Grammy Awards. She’s garnered several top-ten hits and gold- and platinum-selling albums. Recently\, contemporary and classic artists such as Rufus Wainwright\, Shawn Colvin\, Dolly Parton\, Joan Baez\, and Leonard Cohen honored her legacy with the album Born to the Breed: A Tribute to Judy Collins.
