SUMMARY:Carnegie Concert: Deni Bonet
DESCRIPTION:Deni Bonet with Chris Flynn\nFriday\, October 14\, 2022\, 7:30 PM\n\nIt’s no secret that Deni Bonet can play a violin like nobody’s business. Or that she writes memorable songs that make you want to listen again and again. For years\, Deni has been honing her craft as a violinist\, singer\, songwriter and performer. Her style ranges from pop to roots-rock to new folk. Although classically trained\, Deni quit the classical world because she hated having to wear black and sit still! She has a stellar resume\, having performed and recorded with Cyndi Lauper\, R.E.M.\, Sarah McLachlan and many others. Her previous appearances include four sold-out concerts at Carnegie Hall\, NPR’s Mountain Stage\, The Great Wall of China\, the United Nations\, and the White House for President Obama. For the past several years\, Deni has been touring in the US and Europe headlining festivals\, performing arts centers\, clubs\, colleges\, and concert halls soloing with symphonies. Her music has been featured on HBO\, NBC\, American Airlines\, and several films. She was recently honored to be awarded a grant through the Arts Envoy Program of the US Government to spend a month on a residency in Africa teaching violin\, songwriting\, and rock ’n roll at a music college in Zanzibar. Deni Bonet has released several CDs of her own original music\, including last year’s critically-acclaimed “Bright Shiny Objects” on Zip Records/Sony-RED. She is currently putting the finishing touches on a new new album that will be released in early 2022.\nChris Flynn is a guitarist and singer who has accompanied Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Ronnie Spector and Dennis Dunaway (Alice Cooper) along with Simon Kirke (Free\, Bad Company)\, Chris Collingwood (Fountains of Wayne)\, Garland Jeffreys\, Willie Nile\, and many others. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and served for many years as the musical director of the All Star Irish Rock Revue in New York City featuring Irish luminaries such as Cait O’Riordan (The Pogues)\, Joanie Madden (Cherish The Ladies)\, and raconteurs Alphie and Malachy McCourt. He has been performing and touring with Deni Bonet for the past four years.\n \nTo register\, visit: www.nyacklibrary.org/eventscalendar.html

SUMMARY:Tito Puente\, Jr. Latin Jazz Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:The comparison is inevitable. How could it be otherwise? Tito Puente Jr. carries his father with him – imprinted on his physical being and locked in his soul. It’s in his looks\, his joy\, and his music. Tito\, Jr. is on a passionate mission.\nThe younger Puente is determined to nurture the musical legacy left by his father. He refuses to let his father become a distant memory. “He was just too vibrant\, too exciting. There was magic in the music my father made. It made people happy all over the world.”

SUMMARY:Dover String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Music welcomes the return of the excellent young Dover Quartet\, lauded by The New Yorker as both “exciting and accomplished.” The Wall Street Journal has described their playing as “masterly\, nuanced” with “gutsy and earthy sound\,” while the Santa Fe New Mexican has said that to hear them is to be in “string quartet nirvana.” Although violist Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt will leave the quartet at the end of August\, they have announced that they are “excited to share the news that the Dover Quartet has appointed Hezekiah Leung as its violist for a season-long appointment starting in September. You may know Hezekiah as a founding member of the Rolston String Quartet\, the first prize winner of the 2016 Banff International String Quartet Competition and the recipient of the 2018 Cleveland Quartet Award. Hezekiah’s excellent artistry and musicianship\, combined with his experience performing in an award-winning string quartet\, make him an excellent fit for this appointment. Joel\, Bryan\, and Camden are thrilled to begin performing with him.”\nThe quartet was nominated for the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance for their recording of Robert Schumann’s string quartets.\nThe Dover Quartet has released three albums on Cedille Records: Tribute: Dover Quartet Plays Mozart\, Voices of Defiance\, and Beethoven Complete String Quartets\, Volume 1 – The Opus 18 Quartets.\nThis afternoon’s performance includes:\nJoseph Haydn\, Quartet in C Major\, Hob. III:77\, Op. 76\, No.3 (“Emperor”)\nAmy Beach\, Quartet for Strings (in one movement)\, Op.89\nFelix Mendelssohn\, Quartet in E-flat Major\, Op. 44\, No.3

SUMMARY:Joan Osborne w/ special guests Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams
DESCRIPTION:Touring in support of her tenth studio album\, the masterful Trouble and Strife\, Joan Osborne has issued a clarion call. With stunning vocals\, a diverse range of sonics\, and incisive lyrics\, this deeply engaging collection of new original songs is her response to “the crazy\, chaotic times we’re living in\,” she says\, and “a recognition of the important role music has to play in this moment. Music has a unique ability to re-energize people and allow us to continue to hang on to that sense of joy of being alive.”\nSince she broke through 25 years ago with the multi-platinum Relish and its touchstone mega-smash “One of Us\,” the seven-time Grammy nominee has never played it safe. Osborne has followed her restless musical heart\, exploring a diverse range of genres: pop rock\, soul\, R&B\, blues\, roots rock\, gospel\, funk\, and country – all of which can be heard on Trouble and Strife\, along with the Western side of C&W and a touch of glam and disco. “For a lot of the record\, we were going for a ‘70s AM radio vibe\,” says Osborne. As for the lyrics\, the songs “are the most political I’ve ever written\,”she conveys of her first album of originals since 2014’s confessional Love and Hate. Osborne also produced Trouble and Strife\, primarily recorded in her basement studio in Brooklyn and released on the label she founded in 1991\, Womanly Hips.\nMulti-instrumentalist\, singer-songwriter Larry Campbell and singer-guitarist Teresa Williams are frequent collaborators with Phil Lesh\, Levon Helm\, Little Feat\, Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady\, brought to the stage the crackling creative energy of a decades-long offstage union.
