SUMMARY:Latinlounge with Cuban singer & pianist Ariacne Trujillo Duran! 3/15 6/8PM
DESCRIPTION:Roost Restaurant is happy to invite you to our March Latin Lounge at Union\nArts Center! Presented by Mz. Valentine\, March’s Latin Lounge will showcase\nthe music of Ariacne Trujillo Duran.\nGrammy nominee Ariacne Trujillo Duran was born in Havana\, Cuba. She began\nher career as a child prodigy. Blessed with perfect pitch\, she’s had an\nextensive career as a concert pianist and composer. She achieved Master\nprizes and Special Mentions in national and international Cuban\ncompetitions and performed at the country’s top theaters and halls. At age\n14\, Ariacne was chosen to perform with Matanzas and Santiago de Cuba’s\nsymphonic orchestra. While working as a lead singer\, dancer and pianist at\nthe legendary Cabaret Tropicana\, she pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in music\npiano performance from Cuba’s hyper-competitive ISA Conservatory.\nIn 2002 she arrived in New York City after winning a Residency Fellowship\nin musical composition at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Since\nthen\, Trujillo has been in numerous significant projects\, such as the 14\npiece New York Times-acclaimed Timba band “La bola\,” where she was the\nMusical Director\, pianist\, and lead vocalist. She was the lead vocalist and\npianist with The Pedrito Martinez Group for over 6 years\, where she\nperformed in many of the most important Jazz Festivals around the world\nsuch as:\nRed Sea Jazz Fest. Newport Jazz Fest\, Umbria Jazz Fest\, Montreaux Jazz\nFest\, Peruggia Jazz Fest\, Daegu International Jazz Fest\, The Murton\nPercussion Fest\, San Fransisco Jazz Fest\, etc.\nWith her powerful musical presence and versatility\, Trujillo has become one\nof the virtuoso pianists and vocalists from the New York area.\nTrujillo recently graduated with a Suma Cum Laude Bachelor of Art in Music\nat the New Jersey City University and is already on the Master Jazz\nProgram. In 2018 she accepted the Musical Director’s position for the\noff-Broadway production “Carmen to Havana and Back.” Performing with her\nQuintet\, she has received critical acclaim as the production’s arranger\,\nsinger\, and Master of Ceremonies. In 2022\, she was the pianist of another\noff-Broadway production “My Broken Language”\, written and directed by\nQuiara Alegria and musical supervised by Alex Lacamore. One of Trujillo’s\ncompositions was included in Terri Lyne Carrington’s book New Standards\,\npublished by Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice.\nTrujillo’s Unique Style derives from her countless professional\nparticipations mixed in with her intrinsic musical instinct. Her music\ncharacteristically carries a special treatment of the implicit rhythm of\nthe “Tumbaos\,” mixing the traditional Cuban Music with “Timba” and\nclassical highlights\, charged with aggressive harmonization with great\ntechnical complexity and creativity.\nTrujillo has performed\, shared a stage\, and recorded with legends such as\nPaul Simon\, Paquito D. Rivera\, Wynton Marsalis\, Steve Gadd\, Jonny Pacheco\,\nJohn Scofield\, Javier Limón\, Steve Turre\, Brian Lynch\, Lew Soloff\, Taj\nMahal\, Diego El Cigala\, Alain Perez\, Jimmy Busch\, Derek Trucks\, Isaac\nDelgado\, and Esperanza Spalding.\nHer vocal technique stems from an opera background with an extensive and\nsometimes slightly raspy range where she constantly phrases and uses\nmethods of R&B\, Opera\, Funk\, Blues\, Jazz\, and Soul.\n********\nWe have two dinner seatings upstairs with the concert:\nDoors open at 5pm first come first served\n6pm (arrive by 5:30) and 8pm (arrive by 7:30)\nPlease arrive promptly. Seating is first come first served. Roost will be\noffering a delicious seasonal menu with the concert ($25 minimum per person\nat tables)\nWe recommend purchasing tickets at least 48 hours in advance.\nEntrance to the concert is through the door on the LEFT\nNOTE: Concerts take place on the second floor. Roost and Union Arts Center\nare located in a one-hundred-year-old restored firehouse without an\nelevator.\nFor more information\, call 914-488-4698\nFollow on IG: @mzvalentinepresents http://twitter.com/mzvalentinepresents
