SUMMARY:Philipse Manor Hall Pinkster Jubilee 2026
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the Afro-Dutch holiday of Pinkster\, a festival of spring\, family\, culture\, and resistance with live music\, dance\, games\, crafts\, vendors\, history\, & more! Free for everyone! PLUS Pinkster Jubilee 2026 coincides with Yonkers Arts Weekend! Pinkster is the Dutch name for Pentecost\, a religious holiday and celebration of spring where people took time to travel and visit family. \nIn the New Netherland Colony\, Pinkster was transformed into a unique Afro-Dutch celebration – a week of temporary freedom for enslaved people. Take advantage of our special hands-on workshops\, including in African drumming\, capoeira\, dance\, paper crafts\, poetry\, and more. All free! Full program and schedule available at https://www.philipsemanorhall.com/programs-and-events/pinkster-jubilee-2026

SUMMARY:The History of Ossining
DESCRIPTION:The first incorporated village in Westchester\, Ossining is defined by a history of remarkable firsts: the county’s first newspaper\, first volunteer fire department\, first childcare facility\, and first official American casualty of World War I. \nOne of its most enduring symbols is the infamous Sing Sing Prison\, established in 1825. Although its presence has left an indelible mark on the village’s identity\, the prison remains just one chapter in Ossining’s rich and textured story. \nLocal authors Scott Craven and Caroline Ranald Curvan will reveal the rich history of this unique community\, the subject of their just-published book Ossining: A Brief History. \nThis free event is sponsored by Croton Friends of History.
