SUMMARY:Bethel Cemetery & Croton’s Lost Cemeteries
DESCRIPTION:Cemeteries are a record of our nation’s past. There is a rich collection of history located on their grounds. Here in our village we are fortunate to have fantastic examples of period gravestones dating back to the 1700s. Bethel Cemetery is a most charming space\, located in the virtual center of our community\, surrounded by our schools\, library and neighborhoods. Residents pass by and through it on a daily basis making it a part of our village. Croton Village Historian Marc Cheshire will tell the story of Bethel Cemetery\, Croton’s lost Quaker Burying Ground and the Van Cortlandt family cemetery.

DESCRIPTION:Join the artists of Untold Stories – Tara Sabharwal\, Mary Ting and Yeon-Ji Yoo as they talk about their individual works. Their art tells the tales of the cleavage of families from each other and their homes\, separated by oceans\, the slammed shut doors of nations at war\, and the violence of fear. \nUntold Stories explores three artists’ individual pilgrimages into the hauntings of our century. They are the tales that inhabit bodies – the histories\, memories\, dreams and whispers – dissected\, reassembled\, and metamorphosized into another imagining\, and the landscape of resilience. \nThe paintings\, drawings and prints of Tara Sabharwal are intuitive in process -a melding of the unconscious self and the raging global migration crisis. Tara was born and educated in Delhi\, India and resides in New York. \nIn her four decades career\, she has had 45 solo shows in the U.S.\, UK\, Germany\, India\, Japan\, Pakistan\, Italy\, China\, Portugal and France. The drawings\, installations\, and books of Mary Ting reflect on Chinese cultural history\, trauma\, grief\, and the loss of nature. Mary teaches environmental justice and does research on the wildlife trade. Mary is an American born Chinese\, who also studied and worked in China. Her solo exhibitions include the Lambert Foundation\, Dean Project\, Metaphor Contemporary Art\, and the Kentler Drawing Space. She has lectured on the endangered wildlife markets at the Jane Goodall Institute Nepal; The Explorer’s Club\, NYC\, and Conservation Action Trust\, Capetown\, SA\, among others. \nThe sculpture\, photographs and collages of Yeon-Ji Yoo are infused with her childhood memories\, family struggles\, and reconstructed narratives. Yeon Ji has a graduate degree in fine arts and also environmental science. Yeon Ji spent her early childhood in rural South Korea before immigrating to the United States.
