SUMMARY:Stand with Pride "We're Here" Rally
DESCRIPTION:Stand with Pride: ‘We’re Here’ Rally\nSunday\, January 15th at 3PM\nin front of the Pride Center\, 28 S. Franklin Street\, Nyack\, NY\nWhy a Rally?\nRemember when men jokingly said “no homo” to prevent their kindness from being mistaken for queerness? Wednesday morning\, staff discovered someone had graffitied that phrase on the front of the Pride Center.\nIncidents of hateful graffiti\, threats\, and intimidation are rising at LGBTQ+ community centers around the country.\nThese are the inevitable expression of a political moment charged with violence and hatred of LGBTQ+ people. We’ve already seen what happens when elected officials embolden individuals to take action to “protect children.”\nWe saw it at Club Q in Colorado Springs.\nWe saw it when Boston Children’s Hospital received bomb threats for providing healthcare to LGBTQ+ youth and their families.\nWe see it locally in threats against the Pride Center for working with schools.\nNo matter what happens: We’re here. We’re queer. Period. Nothing will change the reality that we are your teachers\, neighbors\, doctors\, and pastors. We are your children whether you choose to see us or not.\nTo hate us is to hate a part of yourself.\nSee you on Sunday!

SUMMARY:Photo Exhibit: 82 Pieces of '82: Main Street\, Nyack
DESCRIPTION:82 Pieces of ’82\nMain Street\, Nyack\nPhotos by Brad Hess\nThe Historical Society of the Nyacks\n50 Piermont Avenue\n \nThe exhibit will be open Saturdays from 1 – 4 January 21st through April 15th\nIn 1982\, photographer Brad Hess walked Main Street in Nyack every Sunday morning\, taking over 3\,000 black and white photographs. Trying out a new film\, he decided Main Street was where he would experiment with it. As the images emerged from his dark room\, he became fascinated with the quality of the film as well as the opportunities Main Street offered him. He returned nearly every Sunday morning for the next year\, walking from 9W to the riverfront.\n \n82 Pieces of ’82\, Main Street\, Nyack will be our first traditional “opening” since COVID. Please join us in thanking Brad for sharing his amazing work with us\, and hearing what he has to say about these street scenes and their meaning for Nyack. We look forward to your questions\, feedback and commentary. Brad will have the floor around 1:30. Please come masked – we want to minimize everyone’s exposure to our current variant with its high transmission potential. And for that reason also\, our refreshments are very minimal.\n

SUMMARY:Film Screening of Sextortion: The Hidden Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month\nThis event is free\, open to community\, and will be followed by a talk back and expert panel discussion featuring a representative from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI)\,\nAndrea Panjwani\, Chief Legal Officer\, Center for Safety & Change\, and Jennifer Hammer\, Coordinator of Anti-Human Trafficking Outreach and Services\, Center for Safety & Change.\nAbout the Film: Sextortion: The Hidden Pandemic is an investigation into the world of online grooming and sextortion–a present-day reality for one in seven children online. By unsealing the federal case of a top-gun pilot with hundreds of victims\, and interviewing survivors and their parents\, this true-crime piece exposes an often-overlooked crime against children\, the tactics of online predators\, and the voices of parents and law enforcement poised to stop online child exploitation in its tracks.\nThis event is co-sponsored by:
