DESCRIPTION:FASNY Museum of Firefighting\nPhone: (518) 822-1875\nE-Mail: kathy@fasnyfiremuseum.com\nWebsite: https://www.fasnyfiremuseum.com/museum-events/\nAdmission Fee: Day 1: Free\, Day 2: General Admission \nJoin us on May 7th and 8th\, 2022 from 10:00am – 5:00pm for: The American Kennel Club Scent Trials at the Museum! \nAfter the tragic events of 9/11\, there was a push in this country\, due to the increased demand for detection and search and rescue dogs\, to increase focus on scent training and breeding programs domestically. Scent work is a sport that helps nurture and develop scent skills in dogs. Breeders can ‘prove’ their line’s ability to do scent work by earning titles. It is a seriously popular and exciting sport for everyone who trains and competes with their dog. It is also super fun to watch! So join us and the event’s sponsor\, Albany Obedience Club\, as we host American Kennel Club Scent Trials at the Museum. \nThe scent work sport will take place inside and outside of the Museum building\, with as many as 80-90 teams competing during the event! Also during this event\, there will be a canine-inspired Scavenger Hunt in the Museum for kids. Free admission will be offered during the first day of the event (May 7th\, Saturday) from 10:00am – 12:00pm. Museum general admission resumes on day two of the event (May 8th\, Sunday). \nPLEASE NOTE: ONLY CANINES REGISTERED FOR THIS EVENT WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE GROUNDS. \nFree admission to the Museum and the scavenger hunt activity were made possible by a generous grant award from the Museum’s Super Saturdays sponsor: Hudson River Bank and Trust Co. SUMMARY:Film Screening: SUMMER OF SOUL
DESCRIPTION:SUMMER OF SOUL\, presented by Garner Arts Center and Rivertown Film \nShowing: Saturday\, August 6\, 8:00 PM\nTitle: Summer of Soul\nYear: 2021\nCountry: USA Genre: Documentary\,Music\nDirector: Amhir Thompson \nView Trailer \nPurchase Tickets Now \nSummer of Soul (… Or\, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised) is a feature documentary about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival\, directed by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson\, drummer for The Roots and bandleader for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. USA\, 2021\, 118 minutes\, documentary. \nThis film marks Thompson’s feature directorial debut and focuses on the outdoor festival in Harlem’s Mount Morris Park that took place the same summer as the famed Woodstock festival and boasted an attendance on par with that concert 100 miles away. It featured dozens of extraordinary performances by artists including Stevie Wonder\, Sly and the Family Stone\, Nina Simone\, B.B. King\, the Staple Singers\, the 5th Dimension\, David Ruffin\, Mahalia Jackson and Gladys Knight and the Pips. Over 300\,000 people attended\, yet it received virtually no coverage from the mainstream media. The 40 hours of never-seen-before footage was originally shot by the late television pioneer Hal Tulchin\, but has largely remained in storage for the past 50 years\, keeping this incredible event in America’s history lost – until last year. \nTickets on sale HERE. $10 general admission. $8 for members and tenants of Garner Arts Center\, seniors\, students\, veterans\, and members of Rivertown Film (Rivertown members\, use the discount code RIVMEM). \nWinner of the 2022 Academy Award for Documentary Film\, a Grammy for Best Music Film\, a Peabody Arts Award\, a BAFTA Award for Best Documetary\, an Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary\, the Sundance Grand Jury Prize\, and was named Best Documentary of 2021 by the National Board of Review. \n“Watching Summer of Soul\, what you experience is nothing less than the sound of freedom.” – Variety \n“Best Film of the Year” – The New York Times \n“Summer of Soul is both a tribute to the artists and\, just as importantly\, their audience — which is what makes it not just a great concert film but a great documentary\, period.” – Rolling Stone \n“Some of the performances are breathtaking\, and all of them are valuable\, like the political and social context that surrounds them.” – Wall Street Journal
