SUMMARY:9th Annual Beethoven Festival - Yonkers Philharmonic
DESCRIPTION:The Yonkers Philharmonic’s 9th Beethoven Festival has a little something for everyone.  In honor of Woman’s History month\, Music Director Ari Rudiakov starts with  Overture No. 3 from 19th century Romantic German composer Emelie Mayer.  Of course there’s Beethoven\, his Fidelio Overture and his Triple Concerto for Violin\, Cello and Piano with soloists Carmit Zori\, Gjilberta Lucaj-Cohen and Robert Feritta.  In between you’ll be dancing in your seats along with Brahms’ Hungarian Dances No. 1 and 5.  These lively dance tunes based mostly on Hungarian themes\,  are among Brahms’s most popular works.  Tucked in the middle is the WORLD PREMIERE of LvB: Variations\, Extensions and Collisions written by living composer Thomas Caprino at the request of our music director. All are welcome to this free celebration.  Come for the first half to experience the past and future of classical music and stay for the second half to hear Beethoven’s only concerto ever completed for more than one solo instrument. \n  \nThis concert was made possible by the Westchester Community Foundation\, a division of The New York Community Trust.

SUMMARY:CAPTURING LIGHT: HUDSON-ATHENS LIGHTHOUSE EXHIBIT AT THE AMTRAK HUDSON STATION
DESCRIPTION:Now on display…  Capturing Light Photo Exhibit at the Amtrak Hudson Station! We are starting the celebration of the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse’s 150th Anniversary with a beautiful photo exhibit at the Amtrak Hudson Station\, and featuring the history of the Lightkeepers. \nThank you to our very talented photographers.  And a very special thanks to @create.council located in Catskill\, NY for your support and confidence! This is the first photo exhibit that HALPS has ever done\, and we want our community to be proud. \nAnd to the amazing Ms. Jane Sinclair\, who put a lot of heart into this beautiful exhibit!  @janespaintings Thank you! \nHere’s an interesting trivia: Did you know that the Amtrak station in Hudson was built in 1874?!  The same year that the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse was completed!  It was built by New York Central Railroad and is the oldest continuously operated station in the state.

SUMMARY:NY OPERA CONSERVATORY: FREE July-August 2024 Summer Concert Series – Croton Free Library
DESCRIPTION:The Taconic Opera summer program for emerging opera singers\, New York Opera Conservatory (NYOC)\, offers you an opportunity to hear the upcoming generation of professionally trained singers as they gain valuable experience perfecting their craft in a leading role. Established in 2018\, the NYOC helps to fill an unmet need among trained singers to gain hands-on experience through actual performance. \nEach event in the series listed below – one tragedy and one comedy – will have a different cast\, making every performance completely unique from all the others!  Each performance includes the complete opera and is semi-staged (costumes\, props). \nJuly Opera:  Il Trovatore – Verdi \nVerdi’s turbulent tragedy is a mainstay of the operatic repertory. The score is both dark and energetic\, with infectious tunes that are not easily forgotten. Set in the turbulent Middle Ages\, the story is about a count seeking revenge for the murder of his brother by the gypsy girl Azucena\, who just happens to have raised the Count’s arch-enemy Manrico. This opera features the playful Anvil Chorus and the rousing tenor aria Di quella pira\, a favorite in concert performances by Pavarotti\, Domingo\, et al. Sung in Italian. \nDates:  Wednesday\, July 3\, 7:00 pm \nFriday\, July 5\, 7:00 pm \nSaturday\, July 6\, 7:00 pm \nSunday\, July 7\, 3:00 pm \n  \nAugust Opera: Dona Pasquale – Donizetti \nThe second opera performed as part of the NYOC summer series is Donizetti’s hilarious comedy\, Don Pasquale. A bumbling buffoon is taught a life lesson as he is tricked into a fake marriage with a young woman who turns into a demanding shrew. Taconic Opera’s favorite hilarious mainstage buffo\, Jorge Ocasio\, joins the Conservatory’s young cast to sing the title role. Sung in Italian. \nDates:  Wednesday\, August 7\, 7:00 pm \nFriday\, August 9\, 7:00 pm \nSaturday\, August 10\, 7:00 pm \nSunday\, August 11\, 3:00 pm \nLocation:  Croton Free Library \n171 Cleveland Drive \nCroton-on-Hudson\, NY \n  \nFee:  FREE \nFor information about becoming a student in the NY Opera Conservatory\, visit the Conservatory website: https://www.newyorkoperaconservatory.com/ \nFor general information about Taconic Opera and NY Opera Conservatory events\, visit the website: https://taconicopera.org/ \nSocial Media: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/taconicopera/ \n@TaconicOpera \nhttps://www.instagram.com/taconicopera/ \n  \n
