SUMMARY:Children's Holiday Tea at Mount Gulian
DESCRIPTION:Mount Gulian Historic Site will hold its popular Children’s Holiday Tea on Wednesday\, December 27 from noon to 2 p.m.  Always sold-out in advance\, the Holiday Tea welcomes children and adults to an event that combines fun\, good manners\, and education about a bygone era\, in an authentic location where social teas were once standard fare. \n  \nOffered during the holiday break and intended to bring families together\, the Children’s Holiday Tea will be held in Mount Gulian’s two main museum rooms\, beautifully decorated for the holidays with fresh greens and tables set with fine linens and china. \n  \n“Not having held this event since the pandemic\, we are greatly looking forward to welcoming young visitors and their families to the homestead.  Many of our young guests dress for the occasion\, boys and girls alike.  Everyone learns about the tradition of afternoon tea\, when Victorian ladies and their gentlemen met for tea\, refreshments\, and light conversation” says Elaine Hayes\, Executive Director. “Afternoon teas were popular at many Hudson Valley homes\, including Mount Gulian\, home of the Verplanck family.  This event replicates a once common tradition\, when days were far less hectic.” \n  \nThe menu will include assorted Harney & Sons teas\, dainty finger sandwiches prepared by The Bagel Shoppe\, Fishkill and a selection of homemade desserts.  A Victorian inspired craft project for the children will also be offered. \n  \nAdmission is $18 for children and $25 for adults.  Prepaid reservations are required by December 19.  For reservations and further information call 845-831-8172 or email at info@mountgulian.org.
