Welcome!

Navigating the Hudson Valley

Welcome to the Web site of Historic Hudson River Towns, a consortium of communities along New York’s majestic Hudson River! We hope our site enriches your experience of the Hudson, through information you find here or by links to other organizations’ sites.

Every one of our member communities has its own page, describing what you will find when you come to visit. The site also includes general tourism information and ideas for things to do while you are in this fascinating region.

We have a section on the river itself, providing links to environmental organizations and information for boaters and fisherman. Our resources section is primarily for municipalities, with a members only page.

We look forward to hearing from you or welcoming you soon to the Historic Hudson River Towns.

The River Celebrates a Birthday

Four hundred years after explorer Henry Hudson sailed up the river now named after him, the Hudson Valley prepares to commemorate this historic journey made in 1609. Learn about the festivities being planned now and how you can participate. The Explore NY 400 program helps communities up and down the river join in the excitement of this celebration.

Rondout Lighthouse

Lighthouses of the Hudson River

The seven lighthouses along the Hudson River remind visitors of the important role the river played as commercial waterway following the opening of the Erie Canal. Preservation groups have restored and maintain these maritime treasures, which have become living museums and in one case, a bed and breakfast.

Estates of the Hudson Valley

America's aristocracy built magnificent palaces up and down the Hudson River in the last 200 years, using the best architects, landscape artists, and decorators. Their estates have been meticulously restored and are open to tours. With many of the homes clustered near each other, a day trip can easily include more than one site. Whether looking for a scenic afternoon stroll, an architectural tour, or a step back into American history, a wonderful experience awaits at the estates of the Hudson Valley.
