 The Old Croton Aqueduct is a Heart of the Hudson
treasure! Built between 1837 and 1842, it brought water 41 miles
from the Croton Dam to New York City. It has been designated
a National Historic Landmark and its walking trail passes through
town centers, backyards and major attractions, and offers some
of the most interesting natural terrain and panoramas in the
east. There are spectacular bridges and high embankments, but
the entire 22-mile section in Westchester County is quite level
and easy to walk. Although it is mostly out of sight, you can
actually enter the aqueduct in Ossining. The map provides a detailed
guide to this fascinating Hudson Valley feature (see sample of
