Westerfield Show at Red Wing Gallery in Tarrytown
Red Wing Gallery is currently hosting an exhibit of Tarrytown artist Bob Westerfield. The colorful and expressive works depict the hills, valleys, barns, and quiet escapes of the Hudson Valley. The exhibit features over twenty landscapes by the artist and includes works in pastel and oil. The show will run through January 7.

"Painting on location, or as the French call it 'en plein air,' gives me a feeling of each day being new, and makes each work unique," said Mr. Westerfield. "Painting has always been a pastime of mine, and over the year, I have taken brief pauses in my career of entertainment to take instruction here and there as time would permit."

The artist began his studies at the School for Visual Arts in New York City, but wanderlust in the 1960s took him away from the area as well as the discipline. Later, returning to the New York area, he took a job as a "flat art" board artist in order to put away some funds to return to school. That job led to a very successful career in media production, allowing him to work on such diverse projects as the first opera to be performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, the 1980 worldwide launch of the BMW 5 series, Times Square 2000 events for the Millennium, and many Broadway shows. These varying projects took him from Venice, Italy to the People's Republic of China, among many other exotic and exciting locales.

In response to the question of which artists have influenced him over the years, Mr. Westerfield responded, "My artistic influences in painting range from A. C. Wyeth, Paul Strisik, A. T. Hibbard and Emile Gruppe, to my new favorite Henry and Edith Prellwitz and their art on the Peconic Bay area."

As a complement to the paintings, the fine art jewelry of Harriet Goldstein will be on display for the duration of the show. The gallery is located at 8b Main Street in Tarrytown and is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.; and Sunday from noon - 5 p.m. The web site is www.redwinggallery.com.
