Half Moon Re-creates Henry Hudson's 1609 Voyage
The Half Moon replica, a copy of the ship Henry Hudson sailed up what is now the Hudson River, will re-create the voyage during the month of September.

Schedule for Half Moon, Fall 2000

September 6 (date approximate) - Move ship from King Marine, Verplanck, N.Y. to Atlantic Highlands Marina, Atlantic Highlands, N.J. Contact the ship at 914-413-9924 to join this short trip down the Hudson and through the Narrows.

September 8 - Student crew boards Half Moon to begin re-creation of original voyage from 1609. The ship will sail on the days, and at the places described in the original log. Principal crew will be comprised of students from Philip Livingston Magnet Academy in Albany, N.Y. and Bethlehem Central Middle School in Delmar, N.Y.. The students will operate the ship and pursue educational programs in history, geography, science, and seamanship.

September 19, 5 p.m. - Half Moon arrives in Albany to conclude re-creation tour, with a ceremony of awards to the student crew members. Arrival will be at the Water Pumping Station in the Corning Preserve.

September 21 - October 13 - Half Moon lays dockside at Water Pumping Station in the Corning Preserve. Monday through Friday the ship is open for tours by school and other organized groups. Contact the Albany Visitors Center at 518-434-0405 to schedule a visit. Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m. to 4p.m. the ship is open to the general public on a first-come first served basis. Admission for adults is $5, children with parents are free. Check with the Albany Visitors Center for updates on special re-enactment weekends.

October 13-15 - The Half Moon will travel from Albany to Verplanck, where it will overwinter at King Marine. Those interested in joining the crew for this voyage should contact the ship at 914-413-9924.
