Tours of Historic Yonkers are Back
May 15th marks the return of Heritage Tours by MCPlans for the second season of guided tours focused on Yonkers history and architecture. There will be numerous opportunities during the season to explore the Hudson's terrace city with company founder and city planner Mario Caruso.

Discover the sites, events and famous people that have connections to Yonkers from the first round of golf in America to the invention of the world's modern elevator and from entertainers Ella Fitzgerald and Steven Tyler to actors Jon Voight and Art Carney. Hear about the local association with ice cream giants Carvel and Ben & Jerry's and the sites and sets of recent Hollywood blockbusters. Architecture fans, can enjoy some of Westchester's finest public, commercial and residential buildings spanning the city's more than 350 year history.

Caruso noted, "As the city continues its dramatic rebirth and downtown waterfront revitalization, I felt it important to take a look back and showcase the sites and people that made up Yonkers throughout its 350 year history."

President of the Yonkers Historical Society, Mary Hoar, stated "On a recent tour Mr. Caruso organized for our members, he impressed us all with his ability to bring to light the events and people that make the story of Yonkers such a fascinating tale."

Heritage Tours by MCPlans offers both scheduled bus and walking tours running select weekends from May 15th through September 26th as well as custom charters for groups. Tours range from a comprehensive "Citywide History Tour" to specific themes of the "Hudson Riverfront," "Downtown Waterfront" "Religious History," "Campuses and Estates," and Yonkers connection to "Show Business," both past and present.

"There are exciting changes for the 2004 season," states Caruso. "There will be new tour themes, more sites to visit, expanded tours and bigger buses. Tour customers can also expect more on-board giveaways and discounts to more local restaurants and attractions."

New tours for this year include themes of "Public Art," the "Inventors and Industry," a walking tour of "Downtown Religious" sites and the grand finale, the "Colonial Manor of Philipse Tour" which connects colonial era landmarks in both Yonkers and Sleepy Hollow.
