Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation, and Conservation, The Hudson River Foundation, Beacon Sloop Club, Ferry Sloops, Inc., Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, and Beczak Environmental Education Center join with Riverlovers to run this wonderful "welcome to spring," the first big party of the season. Naturalist Chris Letts will be at the river's edge cooking and serving his famous planked shad. He and Tom Lake tell many "fish" stories, and facts which are always fascinating. Samples of the planked shad, pickled shad and smoked shad will be served -- free -- at 2 p.m. The local rock/folk group, "The Barbs," and the well-known chorus associated with the river, "Walkabout Clearwater Chorus," and other groups will provide the musical entertainment. The "Arm-of-the-Sea Theater" which will once again bring their larger than life puppets to Croton Point Park, with a performance at 2:30 p.m. Riverlovers will sell a variety of food including shad dinners, baked potatoes, burgers, hot dogs, and soft drinks, Beacon Sloop Club will provide their very special and wonderful vegetarian chili, and for dessert, Ferry Sloops will oblige with homebaked goods. There will be craft vendors with carefully selected wares for sale, and a gathering of "activists" with information covering a range of concerns.
