'Pinkster' Comes to Philipsburg Manor May 16
The Spring Festival known as "Pinkster," celebrated in the Hudson River Valley as early as the 17th century, presents a rousing Colonial style celebration of Spring with a compelling program for families.

On Sunday, May 16, the only authentic recreation of this 18th-century African-Dutch celebration of Spring will be held at Philipsburg Manor, a property of Historic Hudson Valley.

There will be a grand parade with the Pinkster King, storytelling, hands-on activities, crafts and demonstrations, colonial and ethnic foods, drumming, audience participation, African dance forms, and an invitation to participate in 18th-century dancing.

Featured events include:
* Kazi Oliver & Company with drumming, dancing & drumming workshops
* Renowned storyteller & performer J. Gilliam Brown with her celebrated tales
* Spirited Colonial Dancing with Judith Samuel and the Children of Dahomey
* Musician Cheryl Thomas demonstrates African Musical instruments
* English Country Dancing with the Hudson Valley Dancers
* Period and African games for children
* Delicious food from Chef El-Amin
* Hands-on craft activities for children
* Museum shop with African gifts & books

Philipsburg Manor, is located on Route 9 in Sleepy Hollow. Pinkster will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., rain or shine. Cost: $9 for adults, $8 seniors, $5 children (5 - 17).
