The Great Hudson River Paddle Scheduled for June 29th - July 7th
"The Great Hudson River Paddle" started from the idea that with all the annual hikes, walks and marathons on land in the Hudson Valley, we need an annual celebration OF the Hudson River ON the Hudson River from Albany to New York City!

Under the direction of Camilla Calhoun, environmental educator and river enthusiast from Tarrytown, individuals from environmental organizations, historical and governmental agencies, boat clubs, outfitters, local communities and paddle enthusiasts are helping to inaugurate "The Great Hudson River Paddle" this summer, from June 29th to July 7th.

The nine-day paddle down the Hudson River aims to broaden the constituency for increased safe public access onto the river, encourage low-impact tourism and create connections throughout the Hudson Valley.

As the group travels down the river it will stay in prearranged campsites and meet with community groups who will share the local natural and cultural history on both shores of this great National Heritage River.

The American Canoe Association has sanctioned the event and other public and private partners are emerging daily. The "Klang II" a great 1924 yawl sailboat will be the escort "committee boat." The Riverkeeper's boat will accompany us and carry members of the press.

All participants must pre-register! There is a cost associated with this event. This is the pilot year, and cooperation is needed to make the paddle a success.
