This newspaper, published from 1996 to 2005, captured the joy of living in New York's Hudson Valley - from the unique estuary environment of the Hudson River to the historical significance of the region to its vibrant arts and culture scene.
The paper was the vision Lyn Roessler, who was editor, publisher, advertising sales manager, circulation director - everything. Yet a more modest and humble person you won't find.
A unique trademark of the publication was it inclusion, in offsetting typeface, of newspaper articles orginally printed 100 years ago that spoke to the history of the region. Also included were historical newspaper display ads that promoted odd potions and products.
Lyn was a passionate "historian journalist" and would rejoice in undercovering historic tidbits such as the date the Hudson Line of railroad was founded or an upcoming anniversary of a significant Revolutionary War battle in that took place in the region.
And she was a booster of the region, participating in local tourism organizations and using her publication to recommend the best that the region has to offer. As a native Australian, she was keen to remind you of major holidays like Australia Day on Jan. 26.
Lyn was born on May 11, 1941 and passed away on March 24, 2006 after living much of her life in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., where the paper was based. Her departure leaves a large void in our lives and in our community.
Below you'll find a collection of Lyn's work from the Half Moon Press that capture her unique perspective on the Hudson Valley.
